Computer Science Honors

A student majoring in Computer Science can accomplish departmental honors by fulfilling the following requirements:

(a) Taking and completing 3 CS honors courses.

(b) At least 1 of the 3 CS courses from (a) has to be Honors Mentored Research course.

(c) At least 1 of the remaining 2 CS honors courses from (a) has to be a CS mid-level (300+ other than CSC 415) honors course.

(d) The overall GPA as well as in major (CS) GPA have to be 3.5 or higher.

The Computer Science program currently has no stand-alone honors courses.  Instead, students may complete the ‘honors by contract’ for a regular course. The procedure is as follows:

(a) The student consults with the course instructor to define the scope and requirements of the honors project.

(b) The student completes the departmental ‘honors by contract’ form and submits it to the sponsoring faculty for approval.

(c) The course instructor submits a report at the end of the semester to the Chair of the Computer Science Department to confirm that the project has been completed satisfactorily.

This practice is accepted by the College Honors program as well.

In exceptional cases where a research project results in a publication or patent, the Computer Science Department may choose to award honors credit to the student by following procedural steps (a) through (c) as described above.

The Computer Science Department’s Honor’s Program is aligned with the School of Science and College-level Honor’s programs. Thus, it is possible to have CS Honors and qualify for SoS and TCNJ honors, as well.

School of Science Honors

School of Science honors can be earned in addition to departmental honors by students fulfilling the following additional requirements:

(i) A minimum of four 300/400 level courses in at least two sciences.
(ii) The overall and science GPA both of 3.5 or greater.
(iii) Completing at least one written essay in any of the science honor courses.

College-wide Honors

College-wide honors can be earned in addition to departmental honors by fulfilling the following additional requirements:

The student enters a College-wide Honors contract with the sponsoring faculty by filling out College-wide Honors by Contract Form and submitting it through the department Chair to the College-wide Honors Program Coordinator.

(iii) Completing the ‘Honors by Contract’ in Mentored Research
